My Favorite Game

I have just realized, ending the semester that I haven't yet wrote about my favorite video game. So I will..Its Red Dead Redemption by Rockstar Games. It came out in 2010 and was rated a 9.7 by IGN games. In this game you will live the life of a cowboy. Your name is John Marston who is being blackmailed by a government lawmen to hunt down his former gang members. You must decide if you are going to befriend him or rebel but along the way you pick up a love interest.
The game is free reign and does not enforce you to complete missions. It is on the gamers time. There us very little in this game that you cannot do. The land is there for you to explore and live as if you are John Marston. A true cowboy.

Trailers Vs Games

I don't know about you but there has been plenty of times I was extremely disappointed because of a trailer. Trailers tend to make video games look more realistic and flow more like a movie but when you get to the game it looks nothing like that. We've all been there and it sucks.
Sometimes there is the opposite effect though where the trailer is stupid and has nothing to do with the game. To our surprise the game ends up being pretty good. A great example of this in my opinion would have to the be Call of Duty MW3. Right before the release of the game, a trailer name the Vet Vs. the Noob was released featuring Sam Worthington, Jonah Hill and Dwight Howard. It simply just looks like they ran out of ideas on this one.

Why do we Play Video Games?

So what is it that makes us play video games? Is it just for entertainment purposes, are they played to pass time or so we can escape reality. I would personally say that it is all three of those and every player has their own reasons. But mainly I believe it is because the player wants to be someone their not.
In my case I would have to say it is a bit of each. I play games to pass time, have fun and to be someone that I'm not. Growing up I would have liked to join the military but never did. By me playing games like Call of Duty and Battlefield, it makes me feel like someone I could have been. I always enjoyed military history and shows, so gaming was the perfect opportunity to for me to live out my dream.
I am sure I am not the only one. I am guessing that some other people also live out their dreams of being a professional football player or a Nascar driver by playing these games. As technology advances, the games become more and more realistic which makes it easier for us to fall into this fake world.

IMPORTANT: GRAND THEFT AUTO V

This is big news in the gaming community! Grand Theft Auto recently released the first trailer to the newest edition of the GTA world. From the looks of this short video, its portrayed more like a movie than a video game. This makes it more exciting and makes the gamer feel more in depth. This game has changed gaming in the past and I wouldn't be surprised if it happens again.

Battlefied 3 Server Issues

The new Battlefield 3 has problems on release! EA servers are currently down still on the third day. They are supposedly fixing the problem but who knows how long it will be down. This is a severe problem when it comes to reviews because Call of Duty MW3 is being released in a few days. If the customers are aware of the problem now they are now going to buy Call of Duty.

"The fact of the matter is that not only has EA seemingly dropped the ball on Battlefield 3 itself, but also on its Internet-based DRM which seems to be the cause of the problems. Several people have commented to GDN staff that they "have yet to get into the game."
-Gamers Daily News

I disagree that they have dropped the ball on the game. The campaign play is truly intriguing and the storyline so far is very original. All gamers have high hopes for the server to be fixed by the end of the week.

Assassin's Creed Revelation

Another Assassin's Creed is going to be released! One of the best put together games that have ever existed. The series goes so in depth and has thee best storyline that I have ever played. In the past games your character defeated evil as an assassin, rebuilt cities, collected items, and etc. Besides the story the graphics are truly incredible. For example you can visit places in the world such as the Colosseum in Italy and feel as if your there climbing it yourself. This game truly has no limits and lets you explore as much as you want. As you explore you discover, which allows new perks such as weapons and new skill that will enhance your playing. In general the Assassins Creed series is amazing. The first one was a bit repetitive but the next opened so many doors for future games.

Talk About A Trailer : Gears of War

I have never seen such a touching trailer in my gaming career. The thing that amazed me the most was that no words were said and only soft sound effects were used. This is a great example on how music can evoke an emotion. It is a touching song that you would never imagine being in a mature rated video game. The song tells a story and you realize this at the finish when it says "brothers to the end". Trailers can definitly make a gamer interested or even captivated to the point of a purchase. Overall a very successful trailer.

Feel Like Your In The Battle

After today's discussion in class I thought it would be perfect to share my feeling on the upcoming game Battlefield 3. Above I have inserted a twelve minute game play video, I don't expect you to watch the whole thing. But when you do pay special attention to detail. The voice, the scenery, the sound effects and especially the storyline. I know twelve minutes isn't a lot of time for a storyline but you will be amazed with how much you learn. In general first person shooters do lack this component.

Battlefield 3 and the new Call of Duty will be releasing the same week in November. I know that Battlefield 3 will be a better overall game play, but on paper Call of Duty will probably sell more copies and have a bigger impact because of its previous games. I am not saying that it will not be a good game but if your are looking for realistic Battlefield will be the best choice. Frostbite 2 productions have done an incredible amount of research and have done a brilliant job.

Wii Vs. Kinect

Microsoft's Xbox 360 has taken severe action to put the Nintendo Wii's Fit to its resting place. Xbox recently released a UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) Personal Trainer video game that can be played on the Kinect. In the game you will be personal trained as if you were a fighter in a gym. It gives you goals and motivation without holding a remote control. The player can customize their workout to suit their needs. For example if the player wants to lose weight, the game will set up a routine where this will be possible. This is the game that will turn all heads and make players think again before buying the Wii. Check out the video..

My First Video Game Encounters

As a child I played video games on multiple consoles including game-boy, pc, coleko and the first Nintendo. Out of those four, Nintendo made the biggest impact on me. I remember playing Duck Hunt and Super Mario non-stop!! At this time that gun was revolutionary to gaming world. This was incredible at the time of release. Now we have Xbox Kinect and Wi, look how far we have come.
I even remember when Game Genie was introduced! Game Genie was a device that attached to the console and helped you input codes for that game. Here is what it looked like...

L.A. Noire

From the makers of Grand Theft Auto, L.A. Noire is a newly released video game where new technology was put to use. The game plot is that you are an police officer in early 1900's in L.A. where you have too move up in rank. When I first saw the trailer to this game I was blown away by the characters facial expressions and voice. After a bit of research I soon found out that they used 32 High Definition cameras to capture one facial expression. Literally what ever the human actor/actress does is fully animated to the point where it almost looks real. This amazed me and made me buy the game the day it was released. Check it out for yourself!
